Oke and rfall are going. Yeah! (6.00 / 4)

YEAH!!!! (6.00 / 3)
I think I might need 3 tables this year.

[ Parent ]
I'm flying, fyi. (6.00 / 3)
Literally and figuratively

I am fairly certain I am flying. (6.00 / 3)
side pocket discovered we can fly out of Santa Rosa to Las Vegas at a reasonable price.  Haven't purchased tickets yet though.

I'm Going (6.00 / 2)
and I'm flying.  I'm staying July 20-26 (I will NOT miss another C&J dinner, let alone a day of the conference!)  :)  The extra time also includes time for me to visit my father who lives in Sumerlin (though I'm not staying at his place--too far away, let alone after my father's visit at my condo during my wisdom teeth removal recovery, we have this "truce" that we don't stay at each others' residences when we visit).

Looking forward to it!

Is there a C&J dinner? (6.00 / 2)
I thought the boys were not coming this year for some reason.

[ Parent ]
Don't Know (6.00 / 2)
As someone who had to deal with two deadlines this year, most mornings I only had time to post pooties on C&J, if I posted at all.

[ Parent ]
I have my ticket and room (6.00 / 3)
and unless they threaten to fire me from my job if I go, I will be there!

Is it just me, or is it overly pricy to fly to vegas? (6.00 / 2)
Seems to me I used to be able to get there a lot cheaper. Even Southwest is close to $300 if you fly at good times.

Is that high for SF to Vegas? I just went for my brothers wedding and it was about $200, why so much higher in July? I know it is summer, but it is Vegas where it will be 100 degrees. Though I suppose everyone stays indoors anyway.

$215.40 (including Tax) for me from OAK (6.00 / 1)
Then again, I'm flying TO Las Vegas on a Tuesday and flying back on a Monday.

[ Parent ]
Mouse will be there. Woot! (6.00 / 3)
Any advice from you NN veterans about timing re arrival and departure?

is Bill in Portland Maine coming this year? (6.00 / 2)
He had a dinner on Wednesday eve the past few years, so I planned to come in early enough to make that. Assuming they are coming.

I leave on Sunday (likely cheaper based on Norm's ticket leaving on Monday).

[ Parent ]
I think BiPM has issues with Las Vegas (0.00 / 0)
and avoids it.

I'll email Michael to see if they are going.

As usual I will post any dinners in the body of this diary and any other events that I find out about offsite.

[ Parent ]
I thought it was Michael (5.00 / 1)
but either way - that would be sad.

[ Parent ]
You're right. (0.00 / 0)
I emailed Michael and they will not be attending.

It won't be the same without them.  I am very bummed.

[ Parent ]
Plus, I think the dinner will go on anyway (6.00 / 1)
It's a huge group, hell, I'll organize it if I have to.

[ Parent ]
heh (7.00 / 2)
I thought you did anyway?  Don't you organize everything?

[ Parent ]
Jeff in CA and Mrs. Jeff in CA will be there! (6.00 / 2)
I
can't
wait!

I will be at NN10 (6.00 / 4)
With my lovely wife.

Cali Scribe will be in attendance (6.00 / 2)
solo -- spouse staying home to keep an eye on his mom. And I need a vacation from him as well as the whole situation...

I will be there! (6.00 / 1)
Representing Mountain View, BayAreaKen will be in attendance!

Rgds,
Ken

Mrs. side pocket (6.00 / 2)
will not be going. so we transferred her registration to "the awful truth" and it's a done deal.

Saw the note regarding those driving, at this point we are (6.00 / 3)
planing on driving; however, we will be heading to the Midwest when we depart Las Vegas.
We could give a lift there, but not back to this area.

=;^} (6.25 / 4)
Any room for honorary SFK's?

We always sit near youz guyz anyway - it's where all the fun is!

::

I'll see you there! (6.00 / 2)
It looks like I will not be working yet, so I might as well go to Vegas! :)

So I don't see any capools yet (0.00 / 0)
Is there anyone out there who is driving? It's not a very long trip.

I'd offer my crappy vehicle but with no A/C, it seems like a bad idea, at best.

I wasn't planning to go until today. Funny that the part I thought was the easiest (transport) might be the sticking point.

Bentliberal is looking for carpooling (0.00 / 0)
Maybe youse two utes can team up.

AC is overated, wear shorts.

[ Parent ]
anyone going Wednesday? (0.00 / 0)
I was going to drive and offer a carpool, but my better half wants the car this week - originally she was going to join me for the trip.

[ Parent ]
carpool from Berkeley this afternoon (0.00 / 0)
I'm driving after all, with a friend. 2 seats to fill. My username at the 3-letter fruity computer if interested.

[ Parent ]
Whoops! (7.00 / 1)
Interfaith service must be taking into account people who are sleeping in with serious hangovers!  Not until 9-10 P.M.?!

Saturday Night (5.00 / 1)
It looks like with the schedule there is no time for dinner on Saturday night as we need to be at the party on time as they have a maximum occupancy as posted on DailyKos: http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

and I suspect most of us will want to stay to the end of Al Franken's closing speech.  So I'd recommend making a grab and go plan for Saturday night.  (I'll have a protein bar in my bag for that night, just in case.  :)  ).  Someone should also advise uh . . . someone from last year to remember to eat during the day of the party.  :)

And since I made reference I guess I must include a YouTube link to the song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...

working on dinner schedule tomorrow (6.00 / 1)
have been so busy with other NN10 things, almost done and I can focus on SFKossacks.

High five on getting Markos to reply to your comment. huge lol.

[ Parent ]
You are the best Neeta! (6.00 / 1)
I have some time right now, let me know if you need any help with something before we leave!

[ Parent ]
maggiejean is excited, (6.00 / 1)
this being her first adventure with NN.  I'll be there.

maggiejean for Saturday reservation. (0.00 / 0)
Thx Neeta.

Jotter + aha aha for Saturday (0.00 / 0)
Please!

Looking forward to seeing you in LV.

oke + rfall for Saturday (0.00 / 0)

Add two more to the table (0.00 / 0)
My friend Randy Lyman and one of his associates (they work for SEIU) will be there too this year!

I meant the big table (0.00 / 0)
not the sat dinner, not sure if they can come to that yet.

[ Parent ]
Add me to the Saturday dinner (0.00 / 0)
I definitely want to eat something before the party so I don't end up like someone else who shall not be named who failed to eat last year!

One more for the Saturday lineup (0.00 / 0)
May have to duck back to the Rio relatively early; flying back to SFO @ 9:30 am for family commitments. Then again, sleep is overrated, right? ;)

Add two more! (0.00 / 0)
Just got a call from smileycreek -- need space for her and the Mister. :)

[ Parent ]
If it's not too late (and I understand if it is...) (0.00 / 0)
... I'd love to join y'all Saturday night.

I plan to go (0.00 / 0)
to whatever is the plan on Saturday. I'm here at the Rio now.

Two more for Saturday dinner (0.00 / 0)
I convinced my friend Andrew (a really fun and inspirational progressive economist) to join me for the road trip thanks to a NN ticket bought long ago at the cheapest price and a cheap room at the Gold Coast.

If anybody needs luggage driven back to avoid airline fees, let me know, we may have room for a few bags going back to the Bay Area, departing Saturday night, if we don't pick up carpoolers.

Please count me in for Sat. Dinner (0.00 / 0)
I'd love to hang out and have a burger at the Mandalay Bay with all my Bay Area friends (most of whom I've never met!).

I arrive tomorrow morning at 9:00am.  Enjoy your night tonight.

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
