map-sebastopol
Sebastopol is 1 hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge in the Wine Country
(I can promise that 1 hour of driving is beautifully scenic)

UPDATE ONE:

Side pocket is providing ALL the food and is hoping that you would contribute to his favorite cause, Heifer International instead of bringing potluck.

Heifer International Logo

Please bring your donation for side pocket to collect.  If you can't give this year don't worry, please come anyway.

A note from side pocket:

At a past Kossack Christmas party, under the lead of Sallycat and York, we filled one of their bedrooms nearly to the ceiling with clothes and toiletries for those in need of them.

This year please consider bringing a gift for Heifer, International. In case you are unfamiliar with Heifer, It is a nonprofit working in 125 countries, including the U.S., to alleviate hunger and protect the environment by providing livestock, trees, seeds, and training in small-scale, sustainable agriculture. "Passing on the Gifts" is an essential element in Heifer's approach. Recipients agree to pass on one or more of their animal's offspring as well as their training in environmentally sound agriculture to another person in their community. It is a way of giving which hands the power to the recipient. Every recipient becomes a giver and a teacher, an equal partner in working to end poverty; and the gift goes on.

When Mary and I visited Heifer projects in Honduras a year and a half ago, it was the passing on of information and learning that people seemed most excited about. This was in 2007, still the Bush years, and we were feeling that all the causes we poured our time and money into were on the losing side. So, when we saw that something was working right now, on the ground, to improve people's lives and empower the poor, we were so energized that (as you can see) we are still talking about it.

So, this year all the food for our party will be provided. If you feel an urge to contribute a dish, try channeling the urge to a contribution that will feed the truly hungry in an ongoing, multiplying way. Donations made by check are tax deductible. If you want to make donations in the names of friends or family members as a holiday gift to them, gift cards will be available. You could give a flock of chicks or ducklings, a goat, tree seedlings, a hive of bees, or even a water buffalo in the name of your friend. Contributions will be confidential and go directly to Heifer.  And, if you are unable to give this year we will all understand.

UPDATE TWO:

This is farm country (rain? =mud.) so wearing sensible shoes is... well... sensible.

UPDATE THREE:

Markos Taking On the System

From DavidW in SF:

For delivery: If anyone wants their copy delivered to the event, it's Free Freight. They'll just need to specify "FREE EVENT DELIVERY" in the special instructions during checkout. (If they don't specify "FREE EVENT DELIVERY" I'll assume they want it shipped home.) Assuming they don't run out at the distributor's, they should be able to place their order to us by November 30 for Event Delivery. I'll hopefully be bringing the stock personally, but if not, I can Priority Ship them to event site.

If people want to place an order to be delivered to their homes in time for the event, please order before November 24.

If you haven't been to side pocket's sustainable farm here is my last diary about it. It is a lovely place to meet in the Wine Country.

We should be there...that's the grandkidlet's (5.43 / 7)
birthday weekend, but her parties tend to be on Saturday.

So, sign up two more for the holiday party at sidepocket's house!

Rain or Shine (5.67 / 6)
Welcome!  We're just one hour north of the Golden Gate Bridge.

I'm in if I'm not homeless by then. (6.17 / 6)
Unemployment runs out this month, so I don't know what I'll do Nov. 1.

damn, that is not good news! (5.50 / 6)
No way to extend it anymore?

[ Parent ]
rumor has it the House will introduce this week. (6.00 / 4)
thank the maker!

[ Parent ]
another 14 weeks? (0.00 / 0)
didn't Congress just add 14 weeks more UE?

[ Parent ]
Put me down for one (5.50 / 8)
Assume this will be another opportunity to bring a contribution of some foodstuffs for us and maybe a foodbank gifty?

Doug

We will collect food (6.00 / 6)
for local foodbank, or donations to Heifer International which Mrs. side pocket is very involved in. More details later.

[ Parent ]
count me in (5.80 / 10)
I would be interested in carpooling with someone from the city. If you drive, I'll buy gas!

I have been instructed (5.64 / 11)
to RSVP for the Loners.

Reminding (5.75 / 4)
about p00ka's food allergies.

Soy
Rice
Chicken
Berries
Peppers
Nuts
Tree nuts
Tomatoes
Fish
Shellfish
Barley
Oats
Rye
Paprika

I realize this is short notice - apparently the email I had was bad, and there was a miscommunication as to who would email you.

If it's too much of a problem we can not come, or make our own dinner.

[ Parent ]
No problem (6.00 / 5)
Both soups are good, main dish pumpkin and onions, potatoes, we'll have various breads, bounce house will be ready.

[ Parent ]
You rock! (6.00 / 3)
Was very worried we'd drive 2 hrs and p00ka wouldn't be able to eat.

[ Parent ]
Moody, you're 3 hrs. away I think......... (6.00 / 3)
Ukiyo drove from Sunnyvale last year and it took him 3 hrs.

Unfortunately, of course the results are not in but, you have ROAD WARRIOR contenders from Oke in Iowa and Trashablanca in SoCal.

Pretty sure Little Loner doesn't want to miss any bounce house time so plan accordingly.

Your ETD: 10:00 A.M.

[ Parent ]
Sounds awesome (6.00 / 10)
We couldn't attend the Sidepockets' fabulous extravaganza last year, but don't plan on missing out this year.  Put the meerkats down for two.  Looking forward to it.

Add me to the list. I need to drop off that tree I promised you. (6.00 / 8)
Put me down for a dessert and possibly a beverage of some sort.

Me and Lefty will be there... (6.17 / 6)
Looking forward to seeing everybody!  :)

We can also bring some bubbly... (6.00 / 5)
We've had to forgo the Mumm's Wine Club for now, but still have some left to share.

[ Parent ]
May I put you down for 2 bottles of wine?........n/t (6.00 / 4)

[ Parent ]
Did you hook up with Elveta so she can ride with you guys? n/t (6.00 / 4)

[ Parent ]
We'll be there (6.00 / 5)
Mr. and Mrs. FrugalGranny shall be there.

Do we need to bring food?

I'm posting this without checking with my other half.  If that changes, I'll repost.  It should be ok though.  I know he wants to go.  :)

I meant potluck food (6.00 / 4)
We will certainly bring food for donation.

[ Parent ]
I will provide (6.40 / 5)
food. Looking forward to providing it.

[ Parent ]
We're drooling already :) n/t (6.00 / 5)

[ Parent ]
We'll let you know (5.83 / 6)
Side pocket wants to do all the food but I think we all need to help out with beverages and desserts.

Stay tuned.

[ Parent ]
It's cool (6.00 / 3)
I don't know yet, if Homogenius is riding with us or not.  We can figure it out closer to the date.

When the time comes, just email me at scathac1961@yahoo.com.  That addy works better than gmail, though I answer that one too.  We can hash out who's riding with who and whatnot.  We're in the Portola District, so it really doesn't matter where we go to pick up someone.

[ Parent ]
We have one passenger (6.00 / 1)
Homogenius will be riding with us, but we have room for one more.  We will be picking him up at 11:30 am.

If anyone else needs a ride, email me at the addy in the above post.  I won't be able to get back in here again.  The library is the only place I can access this thread.  I can get to my email from home with no problem.

[ Parent ]
Also (6.00 / 4)
Two kossacks need a ride.

I know you've done this in the past...

kimoconnor
dadanation

need a ride.

Spread the word if you don't have room.

Grazie mille!

[ Parent ]
thanks neeta (6.00 / 5)
I suppose when we get closer to the date we can all figure out carpools.

I am near Dolores Park if anyone is coming from around here.

[ Parent ]
I can give you a ride, Kim (6.00 / 4)
I still remember the way to your house.  And, although you're not exactly on the way, it'll give me a chance to test out the repairs on the Bay Bridge.  :-)

[ Parent ]
you are brave! (6.00 / 3)
what a guy! thanks!

We can coordinate more closer to the date. How much room do you have? There are a few others here in the city that have not been in this diary in awhile

[ Parent ]
We will be happy to provide a ride (6.00 / 5)
Be sure to use my email listed above though.  I'm at the library typing this as I can't get in from home any more.  My browser keeps crashing and/or timing out.  :)  Any messages left here are likely to be missed, otherwise.

[ Parent ]
Finally I'll be able to actually (5.83 / 6)
meet sidepocket and other wonderful Kossacks.  I'll be there, just keep me posted and tell me what I can bring, etc.

add gina and mr. gina (6.00 / 8)
Not sure what we will bring yet. Prolly wine. Maybe our own Frickin' Zen that is still in barrel in our garage :) Not sure if it will have mellowed in the bottle enough yet, although it's pretty dang good right now!

YEA!!! (6.00 / 5)
It will be so great to see you guys again!

side pocket thinks he's doing all the food, lol, so wine is perfect to bring.

Hugs!

[ Parent ]
I'll be there! (6.00 / 7)
Looking forward to it.

Oh, man I gotta make it this year. (5.56 / 9)
This is too sweet to miss.  Sebastapol, here I come!

Yup, you need to come..........n/t (6.00 / 5)

[ Parent ]
Can I put you down on the RSVP list?..........n/t (6.00 / 3)

[ Parent ]
Sorry I'm going to miss you... (6.40 / 5)
... finally coming up for the party!

Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy...

[ Parent ]
Good lord we miss you............ (6.25 / 4)
....can't you come see us just for this event?

[ Parent ]
We'll be thinking of you (6.00 / 4)
Hell, we'll be talking about you, too.  :-)

[ Parent ]
so this means there wil be a trashy sighting (6.57 / 7)
in NoCal come december???

[ Parent ]
Hot damn...get to meet one of my favorite (6.33 / 3)
Kossacks!

[ Parent ]
OMG. You've never met Trashy???? (5.50 / 4)
I gotta photograph that.

It will be like highacidity meeting cedwyn in Las Vegas.

Two bodies jumping up and down while hugging.

Priceless image.

[ Parent ]
Turns out we met in Chicago... (6.00 / 1)
but my brain forgot until I saw him on Sunday!

[ Parent ]
yowsa, yowsa, yowsa! (6.00 / 5)
We (j and mrs j) will be there, if the river don't rise.

is there a carpool from the city? (6.00 / 6)
i can't drive... i could walk, but i would have to start tomorrow to be there in time... i don't take up that much space and i am car-broken...

so, i am rsvp'ing with the hope to catch a lift from someone in the city...

I am certain we can find you a ride. (6.00 / 5)
Frugalgranny is the best carpooler.  I'll hook you up.

Not that you're not off the hook already...

[ Parent ]
fabulous. (6.00 / 6)
the first few days of december promise to be quite happening...

the month opens upon a very solemn note -- tuesday the 1st of december is world aids day and i am co-chair for this year's observance of world aids day which will be held in the national aids memorial grove out in golden gate park.

the holiday party will be a fitting way to bookend that week.

and then i am off to nyc to spend the holidays with my best friend and her daughter.

[ Parent ]
Count me in! (6.00 / 7)
I missed last year's party but, final exams be damned, I won't miss this year's!

And I'm thinking of cooking something...

Excellent! (6.00 / 5)
Side pocket wants to do all the food.  So stay tuned...

We can easily help out with the beverages and desserts.

Please note and spread the word that kimoconnor and dadanation need a ride from the city, the Mission to be exact.

[ Parent ]
I have Margarita mix (from Williams-Sonoma) (6.00 / 4)
if someone else wants to bring the tequila (I don't know which brands are good) and ice.  ;-)

[ Parent ]
Stay tuned, we are setting the menu now (6.00 / 3)
We may go more champagne and wine-ish.

[ Parent ]
Count me in (6.00 / 6)
And I can probably drive one person from SF to there.

Paul

You ROCK! (6.00 / 4)
Two people so far need a ride from SF.

kimoconnor and dadanation.

I'll send them an email and first come first serve, eh?

[ Parent ]
What I'll really need is... (5.25 / 4)
an e-mail reminder a week before!

How's Robohusband?

[ Parent ]
godsake you are high maintenance... (6.20 / 5)
robohusband reminds me of the other movie icon in one of the Terminators that morphs from metal to human form.

He has literally transformed from carnage to almost healed in 3 weeks.

I take full credit as his nutritionist and personal chef plus I am known as the DudeWhisperer.

[ Parent ]
i can remind (6.00 / 3)
and would love the ride

[ Parent ]
dadanation, email me if Paul (6.00 / 3)
doesn't see your comment.  I'll hook you up emails.

[ Parent ]
Works out fine (6.00 / 3)
you can e-mail me at paolo1295 at yahoo to set it all up.

[ Parent ]
Put me down! (6.00 / 7)
I'm coming from Palo Alto, so I could stop and pick up a few people on the way.

- rfall

You ROCK also. (6.00 / 6)
I'll send an email to kimoconnor and dadanation and have them post here to your reply.

[ Parent ]
Hey Neeta, you have me down twice (5.50 / 2)

that is strange (6.00 / 2)
I don't think I did something to make this post twice.

[ Parent ]
Oh, oops, will correct now. lol........n/t (6.33 / 3)

[ Parent ]
Hey Neeta, you have me down twice (6.00 / 2)

Gloryous is very hopeful she can attend (6.00 / 7)
I have a huge filing on December 8, but really hope to be at Sidepocket's.

Should I put you down on the RSVP list?.........n/t (5.50 / 2)

[ Parent ]
Awesome! (6.00 / 6)
December 6th is free for me.(Crisis mode @ work is over).  Haven't been up to that part of the state in years.
Since I'm coming from the Yosemite area I can pick up one person I'm the East Bay or thereabouts should anyone need a ride.

So I take it Tom "the Tool" Tancredo will not be attending?

My sorrow, when she's here with me, thinks these dark days of autumn rain are beautiful as days can be; she loves the bare, the withered tree; she walks the sodden pasture lane. - Robert Frost

Good news and bad news.... (6.17 / 6)
Bad news: I won't be able to offer a ride anymore.
Good news: A friend of mine is visiting from Boston for a week. I'm going to drag her to the event, give her an autographed copy of Markos' book, and indoctrinate her to our evil commie ACORN socialist groupthink.

My sorrow, when she's here with me, thinks these dark days of autumn rain are beautiful as days can be; she loves the bare, the withered tree; she walks the sodden pasture lane. - Robert Frost

[ Parent ]
Whereabouts in the Yosemite area? (6.00 / 3)
I used to live in El Portal, Midpines and Mount Bullion in the 80's and 90's.

[ Parent ]
If it rains, I'll be there for sure. (6.00 / 9)
I'm scheduled for banding that day and might be able to get there afterward, depending on how late we go.  (I've made it to the last hour at Sally's the past two years, but this is a longer drive, obvi.)  So, 50/50 if it's not raining, 100% if it is.

Good turnout, but we need more hot chicks (6.83 / 6)
I don't want homogenius to be the best-looking thing in a skirt!

Maybe I could get a quicky (6.67 / 6)
boob job.  I wasn't a "hot chick" even when I was in my 20s.  Explains why I'm still a single chick.

[ Parent ]
Don't forget (6.00 / 4)
to bring the redwood tree. The hole is already dug.

[ Parent ]
Just have to figure out how to get it in my car. (6.00 / 4)
Can you use a jade plant or begonia?  I've got extras.

[ Parent ]
One man's kilt is another man's (7.00 / 1)
slutwear.

[ Parent ]
Jeff in CA and Mrs. Jeff in CA (Joan) will be there! (6.00 / 5)
We're looking forward to seeing a lot of you again!  If anyone in the Tri-Valley area needs a ride from our place in Pleasanton, we are willing.  Now that I see a couple youngsters are coming, we might also consider bringing our 9-year-old daughter to enjoy their company.

side pocket and I are going to rent a bounce house (6.00 / 5)
for the kids and I'll be bringing some other stuff for them.

Kids welcome!

[ Parent ]
OK! We'll bring her. Her name is Mariah. (5.67 / 6)

[ Parent ]
Also attending (6.00 / 6)
Kathleen Shaffer, Sebastopol City Council member, long-time DKos lurker, and her husband Bob. They won't need directions.

DavidW in SF and Makeda will be attending (6.00 / 7)
Looking forward to seeing you all!

Hey, I signed up! (6.00 / 7)
Although my name is not on the list, I intend to be there.

This is beginning to look like Netroots Nation.... (6.00 / 6)
but with better food.

I am coming over from Vallejo, probably via 37 to 101 North.  If there is anyone along that path who needs a ride, let me know.  Let's all cross our fingers for good weather that day.

Doug (dweb8231)

Looks like possible rain but side pocket is prepared with (6.00 / 6)
a huge tent over his yard.  Amazing huh.

[ Parent ]
Request for a future "fundraiser" related to NFTT (6.00 / 6)
I live near the Palo Alto Veterans Hospital (which has a section treating brain injuries).  They collect clothing (remember the female vets), toiletries, magazines, and snacks for the vets treated at the facility, as well as potentially homeless vets.   http://www.palo-alto.med.va.go...
But if anyone just "has" to unload some extra items now, I'll be glad to transport them in time for the holidays.  ;-)

Will bring non-alcoholic juice (apple cider?) and some beer.

I might also bring some mulled wine (0.00 / 0)
unless that will "clash" with the food.

[ Parent ]
maggiejean and Mr. maggiejean (6.00 / 7)
aka Bob will be there with 2 bottles of wine and a check for Heifer.  See everyone on Sunday.

Put us down for a couple of bottles of wine (6.00 / 6)
I have some extra from a fall party....

Hi All, we'll be coming up (6.00 / 3)
from San Fran, I've got Hospital testing to be done Monday morning so I'll be staying in the City and not returning to Palo Alto (as is the norm).
We'll bring some Vino. Ya mean I don't need to bring food?? Ah well, thanks so much sidepocket & ms sidepocket for providing that!

Nav, I sent you an e-mail regarding needing directions...

Cheers,Ed & Christian

we will bring wine (6.00 / 4)
2 bottles

Okey Dokey, Sunday has cleared (6.20 / 5)
looking forward to seeing you all.  I may be able to carpool from the City.

SUNNY! That is the weather forecast I am getting now. (6.00 / 4)
Abundant sunshine. Highs in the low 50s and lows in the low 30s.

Fingers crossed to minimize the mud trampled thru side pocket's house.

http://www.weather.com/outlook...

Late addition!! (0.00 / 0)
And i just now realized I needed to have committed earlier if I wanted to receive the email about directions.

:-(

If it's not too late, please send me an email at either this actt's email or laugh plan at gmail dot com

If i get the details in time, it's
Laughing Planet plus one.

thanks

Did you come??? (0.00 / 0)
I didn't get to meet you!

[ Parent ]
Left at the party (6.00 / 4)
One pair of glasses and one foxy black raincoat (Navajo's I suspect).  E-mail me at ehfarms@comcast.net and I will send post haste.

Thank you! (6.00 / 5)
Thanks for hosting such a great party. You guys outdid yourselves! I am glad I got to come this time.

Thanks!

[ Parent ]
Likewise. (6.00 / 5)
My guest - Savana - had a marvelous time, as did I. What a great way to end this year. :)
Hopefully she gets a DailyKos account too.

Just sayin'.

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
