I am thinking I will make my kabobs, I can do some meat and some chicken so everyone has some protein who wants some. Plus they are easy to do ahead and easy to eat even without a table.

I am so sorry we are missing you gina and bob! But it was so great to see you in PIttsburgh, and know you always have an aerobed to crash on at my place in SF if you want to visit!

Hey, Neighbor! (5.25 / 4)
I gotta work the other two days, but I'm off Sept. 25. You think people will be able to make it on a Friday, though?

AND ALSO! We've moved into a new apt. near Collingwood and 19th!! Finally outta the SOMA-loin - you gotta come check the place out. Frank has been knocking himself out fixing the place up, and we are now walking distance from yer place once again. Give a call sometime soon!!!

As I think my life is calming down...... (6.00 / 3)
....call me when you are around one evening. I'd love to come and see the place!

[ Parent ]
Congrats, sweetie. (6.00 / 2)
I'm so glad you guysare settling in!

[ Parent ]
We Gotta Figure Out a Time (4.00 / 1)
you can come by and check the place out!

[ Parent ]
Only the 13th Would Not Work for Me (6.00 / 2)
I'll still be in Southern California that day, or driving back that day.

13th and 18th (6.00 / 2)
good for both of us, 25th only side pocket, Mary has a meeting.  Love to see your place again.

Are you sure you want to offer two Fridays? (6.00 / 2)
Our working stiffs won't be able to attend.

You should have sent an email blast on this (6.00 / 2)
to get more folks attention.  I am just noticing this one week late.

Also,  I sent you an email re: Meteor Blades posting an Afghanistan diary on FP.  Did you get it? I am surprised you didn't respond.  I may have a bad email addy for you.

Please send me an email from good email address.

Just sent another email re: out of town visitor.  Would require changing your dates.

Please respond.

;)

I am sorry everyone (6.67 / 3)
First of all, the dates on this are not what I initially wanted to suggest! I don't know where my head was at. I am going to fix it in a moment.

Second, I have been crazy busy since I posted this, and have not been able to keep up with DailyKos or email. (you have the right email for me Neeta, I was just too swamped to ever get time to respond or visit his diary!!!!)

I think things are going to slow down now and I still want to have a BBQ with all you folks.

SO....

Please let me know which of the next SUNDAYS are good for you guys. This is the best day for me as it gives me time to prepare on Saturday, I work all week.

13th
20th
27th

Now all good (6.00 / 2)
for us. I'm thinking of a North Bay meet-up on Oct 10 or 17th. I'd better get started.

I can Do an East Bay one in Early November. (6.00 / 2)
As I promised long ago, if the condo closed, I'd have a Kossacks party there.  I'll figure out dates soon.

[ Parent ]
Oct 10th is better for me... (5.00 / 1)
We are out of town the 17th...

[ Parent ]
Sept 20th or 27th (5.33 / 3)
Totally booked the weekend of the 13th...

Sounds like fun to the Cat household!

Excellent!!! (5.33 / 3)
I'm off work, and Frank is kinda still "temporarily permanently" off work for now. Count us in!!!

I'll bring lots (6.00 / 2)
of fresh tomatoes, plus white onion dip plus crab dip.

Do we need to bring some chip-a-roos for those (6.67 / 3)
dips?

Or maybe some vegies?

[ Parent ]
Special crackers (6.00 / 2)
so I will provide them. Chips are always good.

[ Parent ]
Definitely bringing Mr. Cat (6.00 / 3)
May be bringing my friend Steve and his lady. He was at Gina's and one of my parties. The tall guy. I'll know by the end of the week.

I do an awesome potato salad to go with all that bbq!

I do expect 'excellent' potato salad! LOL (6.50 / 2)
Are your friends coming too?

[ Parent ]
Waiting for confirmation... (0.00 / 0)
He put it on his calendar...so I'm presuming yes!

[ Parent ]
Regrets. (0.00 / 0)
The 27th is Folsom Street Fair and I'm meeting friends around 1.

We'll miss you.....have fun at the fair! (0.00 / 0)

[ Parent ]
Put me down for two (6.00 / 3)
bringing black bean and corn salad.

Sorry for the delay in responding (5.50 / 2)
Just got back from another trip to Pittsburgh.....this time a lot less fun occasion...memorial service for my sweetie's daughter who lost a nearly two year battle with brain cancer.

On to better things...I do plan to attend.  Put me down for some pumpkin bread.

Doug

sorry to hear about your recent trip (5.50 / 2)
But glad to hear you will be joining us!

Are you coming on your own?

[ Parent ]
Yeah! (6.00 / 3)
This is looking like it will be a fun party!

Sorry homogenius about choosing the same day as Folsom St. but to be honest I did not think about it. We'll miss you, have fun!

I have sent my address to a couple of you guys, but maybe Neeta can help closer to the event and send it to all?

The Loners RSVP. (6.00 / 3)
What do you want us to bring?

I assume you RSVP for three? (6.00 / 2)
How about some dessert? Are you guys good with cup cakes? those seem easy to me.....

[ Parent ]
We are bringing (6.00 / 3)
apple bread, brownies, and p00ka-safe chips and dip.

[ Parent ]
I Will Bring Carmelitas (6.00 / 3)
This is a recipe that's famous among my stepfamily.  Probably the only recipe I know that gets me to eat something that has oatmeal(which I usually do not like).  It's made with either Caramel or Butterscotch, so vote here for your preference (it is delicious, either way).

caramel! (6.00 / 3)
I just love caramel

[ Parent ]
2nd the vote for Caramel... (5.67 / 3)
yummmmmy....

Love Caramel!

[ Parent ]
A bit late, but (6.00 / 3)
The meerkats will be there this year, unless something unexpected arises.  Mr. Meerkat makes some great garlic bread.  We'll be bringing that unless there is something else you would like us to bring.  I'm not sure if I know where you live, Kim, but I recall it's somewhere around Dolores Park.  I'm assuming there will be directions available.

Great! (6.00 / 3)
Looking at the list, we need side dishes, and garlic bread is one of my favorites! My oven is small, but adequate for heating up whatever you need.

See you soon!

[ Parent ]
Sorry, but I have to cancel... (6.00 / 3)
...because unfortunately, business interferes with pleasure again. Turns out my schedule switch got pushed back another week so I won't have Sunday off.

But I'm looking forward to seeing all of you on December 6th, assuming nothing else goes wrong... :(

My sorrow, when she's here with me, thinks these dark days of autumn rain are beautiful as days can be; she loves the bare, the withered tree; she walks the sodden pasture lane. - Robert Frost

BYOB please (6.00 / 4)
I think my budget will be shot buying the kabob stuff, so if anyone who drinks would like to bring some, that would be ever so appreciated.

I'll have juice, water and soda here for those who prefer non-alcoholic drinks.

We'll bring something... (6.00 / 3)
not sure what yet...but maybe a bottle of wine...or hot toddies if the fog is in!

[ Parent ]
I'll be bringing wine for sure and maybe some beer. (6.00 / 3)
Planning on taking BART so it will depend on what I can carry.

[ Parent ]
No beer. (0.00 / 0)
Can't carry it all.

Taking public tranny.

[ Parent ]
We'll bring a bottle of (chilled?) white wine (6.00 / 2)
We'll be taking public transportation, so I can't guarantee it will retain the chill.  Ah, but wait.  This will be a great opportunity to try out our new (gifted) thermo wine carrier bag; maybe they really do work.

[ Parent ]
I'll bring beer (6.00 / 4)
and some wine.

Many have not said what they will bring (6.00 / 3)
If anyone can bring more of a main dish that would be great. Anything that can be tossed on the BBQ and that cooks quickly (the kabobs will take up the entire grill for a bit) or that can be put in the oven or served as is.

Thanks guys!

I'm sure we can find something in the freezer (6.00 / 3)
maybe some Hebrew National Hot Dogs or Bratwurst or who knows what we bought in the last 30 day!!

[ Parent ]
I'm bringing enough tomatoes (6.00 / 4)
that people can just eat them with salt or mayo. I'll bring some mayo. We won't get there till around one.

[ Parent ]
CAN'T WAIT (6.00 / 4)
I just love tomatoes!

[ Parent ]
You will never know how much (6.00 / 2)
I was looking forward to those tomatoes.  Maybe next year.  We will be seeing you in December, though, so all is not lost.

[ Parent ]
Change the comment on hotdogs to london broil... (6.00 / 4)
London Broil is on sale at Safeway...I'll get one and marinate it for bbq'ing and slicing!

[ Parent ]
then I will make lamb and chicken kabobs (6.00 / 2)
that will be plenty for the meat lovers.

ARE THERE ANY VEGETARIANS COMING?

[ Parent ]
I May or May Not Make It (5.25 / 4)
As of Friday night, my earlier this week teeth grinding I did in my sleep has put me in a rather painful predicament, and I won't be able to make a dental appointment until at least Monday morning (and to make it awkward, to also see a new dentist, whom I hope can see me later that day or the next).

If by chance the pain goes down, etc., I'll be there (While not recently, I've had this before), but I may only drink water and eat soup.  I will likely have to pass any kabobs or if RNinNC brings it again, the pulled pork.  But it's the company the reason I go, anyway.  I just have to see if I can have a cheerful countenance that day.  If I can, I'll be there.  :)

I hope you feel better (6.00 / 4)
I just got a crown on a back tooth and my jaw hurt for two days!

Got any pain pills?

[ Parent ]
Yeah (5.50 / 2)
Ibuprofren and Oarjel Mouth Sore Rinse.  The mouth guard I had (store bought) was absolutely useless--it could not stay with my mouth--I guess I don't have an average one.  :P  I have to survive the weekend and make my appointment Monday morning.  So far, it may be doubtful, but it will depend how I feel tomorrow morning.  I was fine enough to make the Wellstone meeting Thursday night and the Library retreat yesterday with Ibuprofren . . .

[ Parent ]
good luck hon (5.67 / 3)
It would be nice to see you tomorrow.

[ Parent ]
Another no show here, sadly (6.00 / 2)
I sent both Kim and Neeta an e-mail to let you know that we cannot make it today.  As I explained, we have been bouncing the flu back and forth, and today I am it.  I'm so sorry we'll be missing out on all the fun, but we'll see you all in December at the holiday party at the Side Pockets' farm.  Have a fabulous time, everyone!

Pics from this event: (6.00 / 3)
Kim, you did a fantastic job.

And every single person who attended has my gratitude for showing up and bringing the most delicious food.

It was a great day and the weather was beautiful.

Make for excellent memories.

A wonderful party...Kim was awesome (5.67 / 3)
and of course the food was great!

Thanks for organizing!!

[ Parent ]
Thanks to Kim and Neeta (6.00 / 1)
for creating and recording this party. We always have such a good time with Kossacks. The UFO was a nice touch.

Oh yeah! the UFO (0.00 / 0)
I never did find anything to figure out what that was for sure.

Thanks everyone for coming and making it a great day!

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
