San Francisco Kossacks - Bay Area readers of Daily Kos

...it's an open forum, it's called democracy...

Going Away Party for highacidity and ukiyo (PICS)

by: navajo

Sun Jun 21, 2009 at 21:00:32 PM PDT

Sadly, the San Francisco Kossacks are losing two valuable members.  Highacidity and ukiyo are moving to North Carolina.  Highacidity and ukiyo were two of the original 2005 organizers along with myself of our local group that gets together every now and then.  We have had a lot of fun and we will sorely miss highacidity and ukiyo.  You can find past event diaries in my profile of course, several are hiliarious like the tin foil hat contest...but I digress.

Last night we got together one final time in Bay Area meatspace to say au revoir to highacidity/ukiyo and let them know how much we have enjoyed their participation in our group and our lives.  We will miss them but glad that we have virtual access to them.

I will get to see them at Netroots Nation in Pittsburgh and you can too if you register.

Our wonderful SFKossack member sidepocket could not attend but called the restaurant and paid for the several pitchers of margaritas we drank.  What a guy, huh!

A few of my photos below:

It was a great evening.

Bon voyage highacidity and ukiyo.  Please take, live long and prosper, etc.

Oh No! (6.00 / 3)
I've been totally outta the loop AND outta town for all of this. And I was actually visiting - where else - but Raleigh, NC. My old stomping grounds!

Gina and Bob - if you two have any questions, I MIGHT just be able to find some local answers in yer new home town! I did spend almost 20 years back there. So, stick around SFKossacks, and best of luck! The thunderstorms, the biscuits, the Barbeque, the beaches with warm water, and the beautiful mountains to the west will make your stay fun and positive.

Any other specifics I can help you out with??? Lemme know! Fun places to eat and drink, walk and bike - they're there. And I'm SOOO sorry I missed the dinner!!!!

Best wishes!!!

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
