Oh, no! The only comment! (4.83 / 6)
Oh, no!  I can't make it.  I've got a frackin' Bar Exam on the following Tuesday.  As it is, I'm barely making enough time for coffee and sleep.

Bob and Gina <sniff, sniff> is it something I said!?!?

North Carolina?!?!  Well, I've heard the story about your job and all, Bob, and I understand your reluctance to leave it but, as a refugee of the east coast, I can tell you honestly, it ain't no California.

Make sure your air conditioning works in every car and be prepared for rainy summers and some bugs.  But the good news is that North Carolina has turned into a major retirement and business center of the "new south," so many northerners have displaced many of the Crackers.  But they're still easterners though.  Oh, well.

No, it's not so bad (It's not really the "deep south.") and the weather is temperate, they have beautiful beaches (Cape Hatteras) and Bermuda is only about 300 miles out to sea and is always worth a trip.

Just be sure to have a game plan that brings you back.  You can never predict the future and unless you make a conscious choice to stay there, I'm sure you'll want to keep all your options open.

I'm really sad to see you go but I'm sure you'll be stopping by occasionally and you know the Kossacks will be mobilized!

Take care and good luck.

John

Hey, we may come back in the future... (6.00 / 3)
... the house we are buying is in an area that will always sell well, we kept that in mind... so... the future is the future. For now there is air conditioning and lots of really neat people. There are a lot of the same demographic in the Raleigh area because of all the tech and universities there, along with all the accoutrements like good restaurants, music, and diversity.

The local forum I've been reading in my research has a nice thread about the best lesbian hangouts, so it can't be that bad, right? Summer and new bugs will have to be dealt with ;-)

Damn right we'll visit, my daughter will still be here and let us know if you will be in our area, there will always be a place to stay...The Fesmire's Filmore Bungalow.

Now I have to whimper...we are already committed (5.00 / 5)
to another dinner that evening. Can I stomp my feet and whimper cause we can't make it?

It looks like I'll need to be part of the west coast sanity team...sending good CA spices and wine to you in NC.

You will be missed out here on the left coast. Just rock and roll those folks in NC and on the east coast! Show them what us CA liberals and SF value folks are really like.

All our hugs and love and best wishes go with you both.

Damn Sally! (6.00 / 3)
Now the Sunnyvale for Obama group I am part of is going to have a shindig for us the following weekend... maybe you can come for that? They're fun people too.

There are already so many CA expats where we are going.... so I won't feel too out of place I think.

But please, feel free to send wine, spices, whatever... can't have too much Bay Area.

The Loners RSVP. (5.00 / 4)
We can make it. Dunno what the p00ka can eat but we'll do our best.

Oh goodie! (5.00 / 3)
Go here to see the menu... give them a call to see if they use any animal products in their beans and rice... I'm sure it won't be a problem.

Damn preview worked... grumble grumble (5.00 / 2)
 ¡Muy bueno!

Count me in! (4.75 / 4)
I am bummed you guys are leaving, I hardly see you as it is with you living in the burbs, but this is really far!

Who can I hitch a ride with? I am near Dolores Park and will pay for your gas if I can carpool with ya.

A ride will turn up... it had better! (0.00 / 0)
;-)

Last resort for you (0.00 / 0)
Take BART to Millbrae then get on CalTrains, get off at Belmont station.  I pick you up and return you to train station in Belmont.

I May Get There a Bit Late (6.00 / 3)
As I have a meeting in Oakland/Berkley that may last until 5 (I'll leave for Belmont right after).  But I will get there, even if I have dinner a bit later than the rest.  :)

When you can get there is fine... (0.00 / 0)
... as long as we can see you before we leave!

[ Parent ]
I wish I could be there (3.33 / 3)
unfortunately, I'll be in Cincinnati for my high school reunion.  So bon voyage, and best of luck in your new home!

Cincinnati! (5.00 / 1)
Well, I never...

heh.

Sorry to miss you too Paul...

Neeta, responding to your e-mail here. (6.00 / 2)
I'm having more problems than usual accessing my Yahoo account today.  I was able to get into it earlier just long enough to see your note about the change in time.
Since I live (relatively) close by, I'll try to get there before 5:30 to help you save tables.
 See you then.

I am picking up Kimoconnor at the Belmont (5.00 / 1)
Train station at 5up.  5 mins to Hola.  See you then.  No need to save tables I made a res.  Just come early for margaritaville.  And if you can eat your weight in chips and salsa.

[ Parent ]
I'm a-coming! (5.00 / 2)
It'll be me and Greg.

I'll be there... (6.00 / 1)
...it's a crazy weekend where I'll be driving nearly 800 miles in three days, but I'll make time.

My sorrow, when she's here with me, thinks these dark days of autumn rain are beautiful as days can be; she loves the bare, the withered tree; she walks the sodden pasture lane. - Robert Frost

Oh, heck. (6.00 / 1)
We already have a commitment; I hate to miss any gathering of this group. Best of luck Bob and Gina.

What We Are About

A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy

You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back.
--Howard Dean

I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal.
--Markos Moulitsas

Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy

We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy

If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt

Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
