I just learned that Calitics will be hosting a California Caucust at Netroots, today (Thursday) at 3 p.m., in Room 18B. For more information, go to:
http://www.calitics.com/showDi...
I just woke up (at 9:30!) so I hope I'll make it there in time (not an exaggeration--I'm SLOWLY waking up. Darn jet lag!) :)
We were at the Cheers and Jeers dinner last night, and some of us made it to the Burnt Orange gathering as well. Someone else I know will post the expose pictures of us later. We miss all of you even though we know some of you will be virtual live blogging! |

He's expected to visit our valley on Thursday July 17 according to the Napa Register
He's going to tour our wild fire-ravaged state, then attend a fundraiser at a "private residence" "in Napa". The Register asked if he might return to Meadowwood where he enjoyed a mountainbike ride in April 2006. The paper also mentioned an unspecified political event at tthe Frank Family Winery, but I kind of doubt it'll be there. According to HuffPo's Fundrace2008, there are no Frank's in Calistoga who've contributed to Bush or McCain and if it were to be there, they wouldn't tell the local news. My guess is it'll be a big Bush and or McCain donor who's (dis)graced by his visit.
He can ride, but he can't hide. One way or another, I plan to UNwelcome the Criminal-in-Chief.

SATURDAY (no time restrictions yet, (please Obama show up, please))
All other extracurricular events are after the dinner hours and are snackish with no full meals.
Help me plan where to meet and if you would like to join us please reply in appropriate diary.
I have not paid attention to all the posts about local places to eat, i.e. BBQ joints.
I am calling for volunteers to take a dinner and organize it.
I.E.
1. choose the venue
2.make the reservation
3. announce it to the group
caveat:
--observe restriction regarding timing above
--SFKossacks need to rsvp to each invitation in appropriate diary.
To volunteer to organize a dinner first person to POST A DIARY AT SFKOSSACKS gets the date.
To RSVP to any of the subsequent dinner plans by various members please wait for a diary to be posted at our site by the organizing kossack.
I am going to choose Wednesday to organize a destination. Please respond asap so I have a headcount.
I just need 3 more volunteers to organize Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Grazie Mille.

U P D A T E:
I was able to reserve two tables in the main ballroom in the Austin Convention Center. Just look for our logo which is at the top of this page on table top sign holders. (Don't tell other groups as I don't want to cause any problems for Nolan.)
OK.
Please respond below if you are attending Netroots Nation 2008 in Austin this year.
I am working on reserving a table or tables for us in the big main room so we don't have to vie for space for each event and sychronize watches and such like last year.
You just show up and have a seat. Voila!
I need to make a table sign or signs that hopefully remains at our site the entire event.
Anyway, please respond below so I know how many SFKossacks will be there.
Also respond with any needs or concerns you have.
I am so looking forward to this event.

(For copy with links, cross-posted at DailyKos http://www.dailykos.com/story/...
Thousands of firefighters from across California, and some from out of state, will be seeing fireworks tomorrow, but not the fun kind they would like to see. Nor will they have a chance to relax at BBQs or picnics with family and friends. That's because they will be on the front lines fighting the countless wildfires that continue to burn in various parts of California and other states, the biggest currently in the Big Sur area (Los Padres National Forest.)
Tomorrow the firefighters my city will hold their annual pancake breakfast, a fundraiser for their firemen's fund. The breakfast is in conjunction with our county's big 4th of July parade, which attracts local dignitaries, service groups, and performances from the likes of {ugh} the Stanford "band".
With that inspiration, I'd like to hold a virtual "pancake breakfast" fundraiser for firefighters and other groups involved in helping fire victims.

I realize people are strapped for money these days, what with the state of the economy, pleas for helping flood and tornado victims in the midwest, as well as contributions to candidates (especially Darcy Burner, herself a fire victim.) However, if you can spare a few bucks, listed below are some groups that help fire victims (human, animal, and/or plant.) Note that some of the groups below need volunteers as well, so if you can't spare money, perhaps you have a few spare hours to give them. |

If you saw the Diary by nyceve http://www.dailykos.com/story/...

If you can break away for a hour look for like minded kossacks near around or under an orange flag.
I'll try to post more on dkos Monday and Tuesday. Also I am sure nyceve will have more so I will also try to hit her Diary with follow-up comments as well as the open threads. |

San Francisco Bay area bully Cargill, Inc. now threatens to take back some of its salt ponds and go home, in retaliation for environmentalists' opposition to a proposed real estate development. With environmentalists trying to qualify a November ballot measure that could block open-space development, Cargill and real estate development firm DMB Associates are telling Redwood City residents that if they don't support building homes and commercial offices on the 1,433-acre site as well as wetlands restoration, the company will continue to harvest salt indefinitely.
A DMB official who asked not to be named denied that the announcement is a response to the environmentalists' ballot proposal. http://www.mercurynews.com/val... |

| Kimoconnor and avid gardener hosted a midday BBQ in her amazingly beautiful backyard garden.
We had fantastic food as usual and lots of laughter. It was a beautiful day however not good for taking pictures with the sun directly overhead. Every photo was originally bleached out and each one had to go into photoshop to try to get some image out of it. That's why every photo has a very unnatural feel to it. Sorry, but I couldn't just delete all the evidence of our BBQ.
Many thanks to Kimoconnor for opening up her house to us. I was simply stunned by the beauty of every single plant. Your garden is the perfect setting for relaxation and I really enjoyed seeing everyone again and meeting new folk.
Well done event Kim!!

r why you should give me some mojo, in the form of a donation to a worthy cause.
In a bit over a week I'll be getting on my bicycle to begin a 545-mile trek from San Francisco to Los Angeles. With close to 3,000 other cyclists and additional support staff (almost all volunteers), I'll be participating in AIDS/LifeCycle 7. Including three California AIDS Rides (CAR 6-8, 1999-2001), this will be my ninth year participating in such an undertaking.
The ride raises money for HIV and AIDS services for low-income persons of all descriptions in San Francisco and Los Angeles and surrounding areas. Keep on reading below the fold where I'll tell you what it took for me to get ready for this event, which has become an almost all-consuming passion for me. |

| The wonderful OrangeClouds115 had an 8 hour layover in San Francisco and that gave us plenty of time to meet for dinner. My new favorite Gloryous recommended a fantastic restaurant in the Mission, near a BART station so OC could jet over from SFO. In fact, I think all of us used BART dude. We coo.
We all met at Andalu. It was a fantastic foodie place to dine.

| What We Are About |
|
A revolution is coming - a revolution which will be peaceful if we are wise enough; compassionate if we care enough; successful if we are fortunate enough - but a revolution which is coming whether we will it or not. We can affect its character, we cannot alter its inevitability.
--John F. Kennedy
You have the power to reclaim our nation's destiny. You have the power to rid Washington of the politics of money. You have the power to make right just as important as might. You have the power to give America a reason to vote again. You have the power to restore our nation to fiscal sanity and bring jobs back to our people. You have the power to fulfill Harry Truman's pledge of health care for all Americans. You have the power to give us foreign policy consistent with American values again. You have the power to take back the Democratic Party. You have the power to take our country back. --Howard Dean
I am progressive. I am liberal. I make no apologies. I believe government has an obligation to create an even playing field for all of this country's citizens and immigrants alike. I am not a socialist. I do not seek enforced equality. However, there has to be equality of opportunity, and the private sector, left to its own devices, will never achieve this goal. --Markos Moulitsas
Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
A man may die, nations may rise and fall, but an idea lives on.
--John F. Kennedy
We are trying to construct a more inclusive society. We are going to make a country in which no one is left out.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
--John F. Kennedy
If civilization is to survive, we must cultivate the science of human relationships - the ability of all peoples, of all kinds, to live together, in the same world at peace.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.
--Franklin D. Roosevelt
